This is what Greenland 2 is about

Five years have passed since Comet Clarke devastated the Earth – but there is no sign of normality returning. "Greenland 2" picks up where the first film left off: survival after the apocalypse. John Garrity (Gerard Butler), his wife Allison (Morena Baccarin) and son Nathan (Roman Griffin Davis) have survived the catastrophe, but continue to live in isolation in a protective bunker in Greenland. The world on the surface remains hostile due to contaminated resources and extreme weather phenomena. In addition, the constant fear of further impacts dominates.

When their supposedly safe haven is destroyed, the family has no choice but to embark on another dangerous journey. This leads them across a destroyed Europe. There is only one place that promises hope – the huge impact crater of the comet in the south of France.

A first glimpse

The new clip shows us the dangers the Garrity family face on their journey. In a rugged area, the group around John has to cross chasms with the help of ladders. However, this path seems anything but safe. It quickly becomes clear that any misstep could have fatal consequences. But above all, an earthquake makes the situation significantly worse...

Who is behind the movie?

The film is once again being directed by Ric Roman Waugh. The director and leading actor Butler are now a well-rehearsed team. In addition to the first "Greenland", they have already worked together on "Angel Has Fallen" and "Kandahar". He is also known for the tough prison movie "Shot Caller" and the action movie "Snitch" with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Greenland: the first film

"Greenland" was a surprise success in 2020. Typical of the disaster movie, it focuses on a family and their desperate attempt to stay together and survive. This perspective made "Greenland" intense and emotionally tangible for many viewers. The film not only showed the cosmic threat posed by the comet, but also the disintegration of social order, moral dilemmas and the arbitrariness with which life and death are decided. Evacuations, overcrowded streets and a lack of information seemed frighteningly close. The end-time scenario felt less like pure spectacle and more like a conceivable extreme situation. The mixture of emotional family drama, suspense and a reduced and catastrophic set-up made "Greenland" a surprise success.

Gerard Butler and his action films

Gerard Butler has been one of the defining faces of modern action and genre films for many years. The Scottish actor celebrated his international breakthrough in 2006 with "300", in which he became an iconic figure of martial cinema as the Spartan King Leonidas.

In the following years, he appeared in the trilogy "Olympus Has Fallen", "London Has Fallen" and "Angel Has Fallen". As Secret Service agent Mike Banning, Butler, as so often, stands for uncompromising action. In "Law Abiding Citizen", he embodied a man who crosses moral boundaries out of personal loss. In "Hunter Killer", Butler, as the captain of a US submarine, is tasked with rescuing the Russian president from the hands of coup plotters – and preventing a third world war at the same time. "Den of Thieves" shows Butler in a rough, realistic crime thriller. A sequel, "Den of Thieves 2", was released in 2025. As you can see, Gerard Butler feels most at home in the action-catastrophe genre. This will now continue in 2026 with "Greenland 2".
