Buddies Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are teaming up for a film project again. This time they are dedicating themselves to wrestling legend Hulk Hogan and his infamous legal battle against the gossip magazine Gawker.

As Variety reports, Affleck and Damon were able to secure a screenplay by Charles Randolph – based on Ryan Holiday's book "Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker and the Anatomy of Intrigue". The project is entitled "Killing Gawker" and will be directed by Gus Van Sant. He previously worked on the Oscar-winning film "Good Will Hunting" with Affleck and Damon. Initial rumors suggest that Affleck could portray Hulk Hogan.

The story of the film revolves around a spectacular legal dispute that Hogan won against the gossip medium Gawker Media in March 2016. The lawsuit was triggered by the publication of a sex video of Hogan by Gawker, which showed the wrestler having sexual intercourse with the then wife of radio presenter Bubba the Love Sponge. The video, which was recorded five years before its publication, violated Hogan's privacy, according to the jury verdict.

Hogan received support from tech billionaire Peter Thiel, who still had a score to settle with the company. The court ultimately ordered the website and its founders to pay a total of 160 million US dollars in damages and thereby forced them into bankruptcy.
