Very pregnant, Sandra sits in prison and fights energetically for her child to stay with her after birth. But the social worker and the youth welfare office are skeptical about whether they can trust her to do this. They fear that if Sandra comes under pressure, she will fall back into old patterns and not be able to control herself. Only through flashbacks woven into the narrative do we learn how it could have come to this.
