Overview
Set in 1995, "Captain Marvel" follows Vers, a member of the elite Kree Starforce, who grapples with amnesia and haunting dreams of an unknown woman. Under the guidance of her mentor Yon-Rogg and the artificial intelligence Supreme Intelligence, Vers learns to harness her extraordinary powers while participating in the Kree-Skrull war.
During a mission to rescue a Kree operative infiltrating the Skrulls, Vers is captured by Skrull commander Talos, leading to a memory probe that unveils Earth's significance. Escaping to Los Angeles, she crosses paths with S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, triggering a series of events that reveal her true identity as Carol Danvers.
Danvers, alongside Fury, embarks on a journey to uncover her past, leading them to the Project Pegasus installation. There, they discover that Danvers was a pilot presumed dead while testing an experimental engine designed by Dr. Wendy Lawson. The pursuit of the truth exposes Skrull infiltration within S.H.I.E.L.D., and Danvers, along with Fury, sets out to locate Lawson's former associates.
In Louisiana, Danvers reunites with former pilot Maria Rambeau and her daughter Monica, uncovering her close ties to the family. Talos, posing as Fury's superior, reveals that the Skrulls are refugees seeking a new home and that Lawson was Mar-Vell, a Kree scientist aiding them.
The narrative unfolds with revelations about Mar-Vell's efforts to hide Skrull refugees and the powerful Tesseract, the energy source of Lawson's experimental engine. Danvers confronts her former Kree comrades, removes an inhibiting implant, and reaches her full potential.
