About this movie

This is the true story of Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch). Freshly graduated from college with a promising future ahead, McCandless instead walked out of his privileged life and into the wild in search of adventure. What happened to him on the way transformed this young wanderer into an enduring symbol for countless people -- a fearless risk-taker who wrestled with the precarious balance between man and nature.

Our family just lost 2 hours of our life that we will never get back. Terrible story, terrible movie. There is nothing enjoyable about watching an ill-prepared person attempt to live in the wild for some esoteric hippie ideology. Pure stupidity. And even the Eddie Vedder Tracks were terrible. Everything about this was off-key. Don’t waste your time.

Terrible movie...waste of time to watch a very stupid arrogant boy run away from home without doing his due diligence to learn about being a survivalist !

I loved it! Of course I don't agree with what he did. I believe we have a responsibility to be there for our families and loved ones. That's why I got chills at the end of the movie when he wrote, "happiness is only real when it's shared." At the end, he realized as great as the wilderness is we need each other. I also was touched at all the people he met along the way who helped him and loved him. It also inspired me to spend more time in nature and away from technology. Beautiful film!
