Ice Age 6: Boiling Point

After a break of over a decade, the successful franchise is returning to the big screen. For a long time, it was quiet around Manny, Sid and Diego until Sid spokesman John Leguizamo, of all people, dropped the bombshell in September 2024 and revealed the sequel. It is now official: the story continues under the working title "Ice Age: Boiling Point". The title says it all, as temperatures rise and the herd has to embark on a new adventure that takes them back to the dangerous "Lost World" - including lava and dinosaurs.

The most important news for fans is certainly that the gang is complete again. The official description confirms the return of Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie and of course Scrat. Simon Pegg will also lend his voice to the one-eyed weasel Buck again. The fact that Scrat is back should reassure many, as the popular sabre-toothed squirrel character was sometimes sorely missed in the last spin-offs.

Behind the scenes, however, there has been a massive change that fans are watching with excitement, but also concern: The original animation studio Blue Sky, which shaped the distinctive look of the first five films, was closed by Disney in 2021. The animation for Part 6 is now being handled by 20th Century Animation. This studio was already responsible for the Disney+ spin-off "Ice Age: The Adventures of Buck Wild", which was rather poorly received by critics and fans. It remains to be seen whether the quality for the major feature film can be raised to the old level again.
