Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Ratings & Reviews
- E Hartanto2d agoAs entertaining as I watched it 40 years ago. It brings back a lot of memories. Nice movie with talented actors, Ke Huy Quan won an Oscar eventually. The movie is funny and interesting, great filming technique from Spielberg!
- Rowan KrzysiakFebruary 1, 2025A much improved sequel in every way. The characters, set-pieces and tone are pretty spot on and enjoyable throughout. Tension and laughs are well balanced at a good pace. It's silly fun.
- TheDesertLadJune 17, 2025This movie gets a lot of hate for being the darkest, for lacking Judeo-Christian elements, and the stereotypical depictions of the people in this film... However, I think this is an overlooked masterpiece and a critical film to watch when discussing George Lucas and/or Stephan Spielberg as both of them were going through personal problems of the age and it is highly reflected in this movie. Not to mention, this film proves that the "Indiana Jones formula" that Raiders/Last Crusade is known for isn't the only formula that can work. Just because a piece of media can be "offensive" to modern audiences doesn't take away from other aspects that hold this movie up. The action is great, the depiction of cult leaders in a theatrical sense is fantastic, having non-Judeo/Christian gods "be real" in the lore allows many of the games to exist alongside Raiders and the Last Crusade. I love this movie and if you want a fun popcorn flick - this is going to do it well. Just keep the lights off to let the dark atmosphere engulf your living room in the process!
- penbastMay 2, 2025Is it the best Indy Movie? Nope. This movie has many issues and problems. But Boy, it is still my favourite because it is gritty and dark and turns the focus away from punching nazis (which is not bad. I love a good throw at a nazi). But Temple of Doom is different in so many ways but still true to the original material. It is a perfect sequel. Erm sorry, prequel to a perfect movie.
- travelericMay 6, 2025Super unrealistic, but kind of cute
- AbbaMarch 16, 2025The set pieces and elaborate chase and action sequences are truly admirable. Refreshing to see how much planning and thought went into orchestrating the chase scenes while keeping it entertaining. Spielberg is really second to none when it comes to adventure movies.
